The family is under attack! Not from a physical predator but a spiritual one. The adversary has convinced people that values don’t matter, that marriage doesn’t matter and that God doesn’t matter. Anything goes! I think it is a time for a call to action. If we want to heal society we need to heal our homes. We need to bring back the values that our ancestors worked so hard to preserve. Preservation of the family needs to be our focus and then everything else in life should fall into place.

President Nelson once spoke of a time he was river rafting with his family. When the rapids got bad he felt that he needed to cling to his family to keep them safe. He went on to say that when our spouse and children are in trouble spiritually we also want to cling to them. He counseled that we need to be clinging to the Savior and then our family can cling to us. So, the first thing I am going to do to try to preserve my family is to cling to the Savior. I would like to learn to rely more fully on Him and through Him become the wife and mother that I need to be. I want to show my children that we can find true joy in the family unit. As I was thinking of the specific things I will do to preserve my family I realized that all of them come from the Family Proclamation.

Have a home full of:

- faith
-prayer
-repentance
-forgiveness
-respect
-love
-compassion
-work
-wholesome recreational activities

Each one of these seems small and simple all by themselves but when all of implemented together it can have amazing results.

As I cling to the Savior and , my husband and I will be able to build the life that we love. We can build a home that can withstand all the storms that this life throws at it.

We will continue to have a Christ centered home, engage in wholesome recreational activities, and have love, compassion and respect in our home. We love to travel and spend time together as a family so that helps us bond together. It is easy to get discouraged with the way the world is going today. We need to remember that Heavenly Father can see the end from the beginning. Faith is one of the most important keys in preserving your family.

The rising generation doesn’t believe that marriage is important. If current trends continue, this could have a huge effect on society in the future.  How do I teach my children that marriage is important and that they need to fight to stay married no matter what when everyone around them seems to be separating? I know I need to be a good example, but sometimes it takes a village to raise a child and my village might not be helping in this area.
